this room has caught my attention for a few months straight now. i'm not even much of an orangey kind of girl, but i LOVE it in here! and that art? yeah- it inspired my and a client to do a DIY version for a room in her house. pictures to come.

looking forward

i was at anthropologie returning some extra knobs that i picked up for a project when i spotted these...
they are 20"x20" napkins that will make AMAZING pillows!
zoom it!
i love the color combo. i would NEVER think i'd like purple and red together!
maybe it's the crocheted hint of navy that does it for me...

best part of it? i found them in the sale section...
$8.00 marked down to $4.95.
when i went to check out, they rung up as $1.50.
love it when that happens!
i ran back to the sale section and grabbed two more! biggest regret? i wish i grabbed them ALL!

i love using anthro napkins for pillows. they have so many different patterns and colors that are so unique. they are sure to add punch to the room while guaranteeing a "one of a kind" pillow. here are some other ones i've made..

i am saving these babies for a year and a half. they'll be something GLORIOUS to look forward to when we move. i'll have to have some sort of a "pick me up" when our time in boston is done...

map it out

i just started a new project! this one is so much fun being that it's an office space. as of now, the walls are being ripped down, carpet being ripped out, and the finishes and furnishings are being chosen.

i am so lucky to be working with such a talented architect and men who trust us when it comes to choosing what to do with the space. we have some great direction, too.

the cottage

lots of white paneling, beautiful dark wood floors, some cooler colors to add depth to the space, and all different textures to bring variety into the space. we're also staying clean and simple in order to keep the fluff to a minimum. we're aiming to have this office feel like an updated, more masculine version of a cottage.

being that it's located in downtown boston, i think i just found the perfect artwork for the space.

how perfect would some of these vintage maps of the old city be?
(don't worry- i'll make sure they all match in tone when purchasing)

i am loving me some maps right now.

today's inspiration... DIY bench

can i please have one?
i am going to keep my eyes peeled for a long, skinny coffee table in order to get this DIY bench on a roll...

here are some fun fabrics for all types that would do wonders on a bench like this!

for that boho chic look seen above...

and dress it up with bohemian glam
(this is my favorite!)

looking for more of a modern feel?

here are some tribal, earthy options

for that preppy girl within...

lastly, for the boat lovers

(all fabrics above can be found at calico corners)

i love project like this where the options are endless. there are so many ways to express your taste!
if you give this project a whirl, please send me pictures!

pendant lovin'

i am loving the hicks pendant right now from circa lighting. what a classy piece of lighting! it has a great nautical feel that can fit in any style interior. the different size and finish options this piece comes in make it quite the option.

if i was dressing my dream kitchen today, this would be my #1 choice of pendant.

paint me some stairs

i am loving these painted stair runners these days! they look so clean and crisp when freshly painted.
the question is this: how long will they last?
how long will these puppies look freshly painted? for high traffic stairs, i would expect some quick wear and tear. probably within the week. luckily, though, the stairs can be touched up with a little paint pretty easily.

orla kiely

alright. let's discuss.

PROS
- easy to clean
-fun and unique
-affordable (initially and repairs)

CONS
- slippery compared to carpet runner
- wear and tear shows quickly
- dust shows if painted a dark color

stair painting tips.
- paint with low gloss paint. high gloss paint will make your stairs a slippery slope.
- be prepared to see some wear and tear. some people LOVE this look! personally, i think i would be sad to see the paint wear away, but you might love it.
- the paint will last MUCH longer if you have a no shoes rule... just a thought.
- make sure to tape out the lines if you are painting a runner. use a level to make sure tape lines are straight.

new year's inspiration

amy meier is my new source of inspiration. i fell head over heels for her work last night and just HAVE to share a few images with you.

can i please live here? everything is so well put together, but not too matchy matchy. it doesn't get much cozier than slate velvet sofas and betwixt armchairs.

this marble top sideboard is so crisp in the black and white dining area
i am loving the bedding and lamps!
striped ceilings, frames above the mantle, and simple nightstands.

crisp, crisp, crisp!

the pop of red is perfect in this clean kitchen

how BOLD! i would be nervous to paint all the molding blue, but it couldn't be more beautiful! trellis with that herringbone looks amazingly masculine. the drawer pulls are a perfect fit as well.

the task lighting on the artwork is so handsome.

need help with bookshelves? these are amazing... quite inspiring.

these pictures really vamped up my day!
back to work.

and... HAPPY NEW YEAR!
