the master bedroom

my favorite room in the baker home would have to be the master bedroom!  i was so happy that emily went out on a limb and trusted me with a few things.  she also found some AMAZING items on her own that truly pulled the room together.

nightstands and lingerie chest: pier 1 imports (nightstands refinished by me)
headboard: ballard designs with COM fabric
bedding: restoration hardware
bedding pillows and bench: custom made through me
rug: ballard designs

entry ways and living room

here is more of the baker's home!

 back entry:

 rug: ballard design
mirror: thrift store, painted
hooks: anthropologie
entry piece: ballard design
trays: west elm

front entry:

the baker's front door opens directly to their stair case.  since there was no going around that, we wanted to give the stairway a nice face lift.

here it is beforehand:

we decided to paint the stairs all white, find some nice carpet to use as a runner, and add some wainscot  up the walls to add some character.  then we used some framed photos of their little girl to go up the stairs.  i LOVE how this space turned out!

now i would just love to stain the hand rail dark brown.  i think it would be striking!

piano room:

rug: fallon rug (owned previously by bakers)
pillows: pottery barn
chairs: home decorators collection
curtains: west elm
mirror: home goods
lamp: brimfield antique show

more to come!

look at these beauties

remember this room?

well, we saw this fabric...

chenonceau by schumacher
(available through me)

and thought it would add a lot to the space.
let's see it in some roman shades, shall we?

we are so thrilled by how the shades turned out!

*and isn't that blue bench fabulous? $30 at brimfield. i can't wait for may to come around so i can grab some for me and my sisters!

DIY: mirror revamp

mirrors can be pricey little things. i have a hard time spending a lot of money on a mirror/accessory when they are so easy to come by and not.so.large. due to this lack of willingness to submit to prices, i have started keeping my eyes peeled for accessories in other places. thrift stores, consignment stores, markets, etc.

remember this ole mirror i found at a thrift shop?

(this is quite the small image)

i went ahead and painted it black.

what i used:
mirror
drop cloth
paint brush
primer
paint
polyurethane finish (definitely unnecessary)
razor
glass cleaner

i just dropped the drop cloth, got out the primer, paint, and the brushes and went at it. i read on little green notebook that i shouldn't bother taping the mirror. just to paint as i pleased (thanks for the tip, jenny. taping is such a waste of time!!!!). i then let the paint dry and topped it with a poly finish to add some more gloss. (you could just get a higher gloss paint. i didn't realize until after it was painted that i wanted more shine).

you want to see the sloppy edges?

that's nothing that a little glass cleaner can't handle!

i actually used a razor to scrape the paint out of the space between the mirror and the frame (remember, this is a thrift shop find. there WAS a space between the mirror and the frame).

and voila!

this is the only picture i have of the final product! we are going to hang the mirror above this console in my client's entry. more pictures to come.

oh happy day!

the project i've been working on for a while is coming together!
i got a text with this in it yesterday...

the living room is put together! well, for the most part. i am so excited that it's turned out so well! we are loving how the space is coming together. with all the backorders and long distance deliveries to hold us back, we've pushed through to make it all work.

isn't my client, emily, one classy gal? you can just tell from her home...

next? finish the bedroom and the kitchen...
more pictures to come.

christmas at our house

we've been a little behind on "decking the halls" this year at the schmutz residence.
we were gonna skip out on a tree, but what is christmas day without a tree?
i told my dad we weren't going to get one and he said, "For PETE'S SAKE! IT'S CHRISTMAS!"
haha. my favorite line of this week!

needless to say, we picked up a tree on monday.

bennett and i have been very busy around our apartment recently.
here are some results.
we decided not to spend a CENT on our tree decorations this year. so, that's what we came up with! i rummaged through my craft boxes and found what you see. we LOVE IT! our little modern tree. non-breakable, paper, felt, and glittered decor.

we wish you all a very merry holiday season!
can you believe christmas is only 9 days away?

mama's house

i'm heading home today! YAY!
in thinking about going home, i just wanted to share a few pics of my parents' house.
my mom and i have been hard at work over the last year transforming their home.
here are some pictures of my parent's room.

we had most of the pillows on the bed and the cushion on the chair (in the corner) custom made. my mom had all of those fabrics stored away for another project. when we were thinking about her room, she pulled out what she had and it worked PERFECTLY! we are so thrilled with how it all turned out!

bedding: bloomindgales/ralph lauren
bed: horchow
side tables, mirrors, bench: restoration hardware
lamps: my mom's collection
garden stool: local home boutique
upholstered chairs: calico corners
drapes, pillows: custom made

my NEW old room

i have held this room's redo close to my heart...
this is the room i grew up in.
got ready for dances, did endless hours of homework, slept in on weekends, etc.
it finally got it's facelift after many years of wear and tear.

{before}

{after}

my parents' home is really starting to shine. we've been having a blast putting their rooms together. this (so called) guest room has to be my favorite. it's still in the works, but i just couldn't resist giving you a glimpse of the goodies.
